Pilates and Physical Therapy

The Pilates method, when used as a form of physical therapy, is an innovative approach to rehabilitation and wellness. Highly sought by dancers, football players, and other professional athletes, Pilates is not only used to treat a specific injury, but enhances total body fitness and muscular balance. Therefore, people can return to a pre-injury status strong and without risk of further impairment.

Physical Therapy is the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of movement dysfunction. Because the theories of Pilates include anatomy and kinesiology and work to enhance and improve musculoskeletal movement, physical therapists have begun to use Pilates as an adjunct to their treatment of multiple pathologies. Through the use of machines, springs and pulleys, resisted bands, exercise balls, and personal muscle control, Pilates assists in complete musculoskeletal wellness.
